James Jagger’s watersports photography is nothing if not dynamic. And yet, we’ll readily admit that this dynamism is vastly increased with Mother Nature’s blessing. A good ole storm is ripe for some spectacular windsurfing action. Of which, James has been on hand many a time to capture and document the action.
It ain’t always easy.
Watersports photography isn’t always easy, especially with howling winds and driving rain in the mix. Being exposed to the elements at coastal venues means anyone shooting pics, such as James, will get battered. And so will the equipment.
Proper clothing, to protect oneself against the harshness of the environment is 100% needed. As is protection for camera gear. Electronic devices don’t mix well with salty and sandy rain-soaked locations. So preparedness is key. But James is experienced in these situations so knows what it takes to look after himself and his gear. Yet still come away from storm windsurfing photoshoots with the goods.
Hunting for the perfect watersports photography shot.
Is there such a thing as the perfect shot? Maybe, maybe not. Nonetheless, the intent’s always there when James Jagger heads to the coast for some storm photography action. It just depends on a few different factors. The weather, the rider (or riders) and James being ever-ready with his trigger finger.
Fortunately, there are a few windsurfers James works regularly with in these situations. Knowing the person and how they’re likely to perform in such conditions enables JJP to anticipate what’s about to go down. As a windsurfer himself, James is able to pick up on subtle changes in body language which often signal a move is about to be busted out. And in the blink of an eye shots are reeled off and those action captures in the bag for later use.
